Laško
Laško is a beautiful old town with a rich past and rich cultural heritage. The first document mentioning Laško's »borough rights« dates from 1227. The geographical location and traffic infrastructure along the lower river Savinja as well as the source of healing thermal water essentially influenced the time and intensity Laško's settlement already long before the establishment of a medieval borough. Under the Roman rule Laško became a well-known spa-resort. The preserved epitaphs and reliefs on Roman tombstones testify of the wealth of their inhabitants. New fame came to Laško when its thermal springs were rediscovered during the construction of the Vienna – Trieste railway line and in the middle of the last century Laško became a thermal spa resort – holiday place that was known of across Europe.

Today the Spa and Wellness Thermana Laško is an important turist, wellness and medical centre.
In August 2010 a new Congress Center for 1.100 participantsit opened the door. It is composed of 8 rooms, of which the largest hall could accept 490 participants.
The Tabor Castle
Above the city of Laško there is a castle named Tabor. It is a charming place for concerts and other cultural events.
Laško Brewery
Laško Brewery (Slovene: Pivovarna Laško) is the largest brewery of the country. It was founded in 1825.

Arriving by plane: the nearest airports are:
Ljubljana – 110 km
Graz (Austria) – 130 km
Zagreb (Croatia) – 105 km
Transportation from airports to Laško and back could be arranged for all STC 2011 participants expressing such a wish at the time of registration.
Arriving by car:
Laško is located 65 km from Maribor and 80 from the Austrian border. The distance from Slovenia’s capital city, Ljubljana, to Laško is 90 km and from Zagreb, Croatia’s capital, it’s 100 km. The Hungarian border is 140 km from Laško.
